Ross, played by Jerrod Carmichael, appears in a tux. The remake has all of the hallmarks of the 1996 episode. The authors of The Unofficial Guide to Friends say of this episode that “the script is dull and the performers seem to know it, with none of them trying particularly hard to make it work”. The all-black cast then recites lines from the episode, ‘The One Where No One’s Ready’.
A wide shot reveals the apartment living room, familiar to Friends viewers, replete with ivory-coloured carpet, cream couch, and off-white lampshade. The video, directed by Alan Yang, begins with the usual scene-opening musical kick. But - without at all wanting to sever the music video’s discussion of race and prejudice - it also offers us some acute observations about modern friendship.
